Chris Pine (Star Trek, Wonder Woman) makes his London stage debut in Simon Stone’s bold new adaptation of Chekhov’s Ivanov. Playing a strictly limited run at the Bridge Theatre, book your official tickets to Ivanov today!
Nikolai has forgotten how to be happy, if he ever was. Burned out and restless, he should be enjoying midlife: a perfect wife, a strong career, a comfortable home. But debts are mounting, his wife Anna is sick, and everything feels like it’s slipping away. Maybe a night at the Lebedevs’ party will shake off the gloom.
As Nikolai stumbles from one social disaster to another, he’s desperate to revive his passion for life. Anna gave up everything for him, even her family, yet he can’t seem to return the happiness she deserves. Nightly parties only make things worse, but staying home means facing how empty he’s become.
When change finally comes, it’s messy, absurd, and impossible to ignore, in the form of an affair. Can Nikolai save his marriage, his career, and his will to live? Or is everything destined to collapse?
If you can’t get enough of Ivanov, there’s plenty more theatre that captures the same emotional realism. Discover powerful plays driven by character and psychology, from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, a gripping drama exploring power, control and personal rebellion, to Witness for the Prosecution, a tension-filled courtroom thriller shaped by motivation, deception and unexpected twists.

Hollywood star Chris Pine (Star Trek) will be boldly going where he’s never been before, to the London stage! Pine will star in Simon Stone’s bold new take on Anton Chekhov’s Ivanov at the Bridge Theatre next summer. Stone is no stranger to the Bridge, with his critically acclaimed splash-hit, The Lady From the Sea, currently playing at the theatre. But this marks Pine’s first stage appearance in more than a decade.
Adapted and directed by Simon Stone, the production will begin previews on 4 July 2026 and will run through 19 September 2026. Ivanov tells the story of Nikolai Ivanov, a man who seems to have it all but feels utterly lost. His marriage is unraveling, his finances are in trouble, and his passion for life has all but vanished. It’s a timeless Chekhov story about disillusionment, purpose, and the quiet chaos of the human heart.
